One of the biggest leaks in video game history went viral among PC gamers early Sunday morning, proving a nightmare for Rockstar Games Franchise. Teapotuberhacker, a GTA forum user, has posted 90 videos from a Grand Theft Auto 6 test build. These leaked videos and screenshots are all over YouTube, Twitter, Reddit, and other social media platforms.
These clips are intermixed with information from recent GTA 6 leaks and an earlier one, which reportedly include multiplayer characters. One of the main characters is a Latina woman named Lucia, who can be seen in a video robbing a waffle restaurant. Other character can be seen riding the “Vice City Metro” in a different video, suggesting that GTA VI will be set in and around a fictionalized city of Miami.
The hacker claims to have downloaded these videos from Rockstar’s employee’s Slack channel. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier confirmed the authenticity of the leaked videos. According to Schreier:
“Not that there was much doubt, but I’ve confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend’s massive Grand Theft Auto VI leak is indeed real. The footage is early and unfinished, of course. This is one of the biggest leaks in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games”.
Bloomberg also reported that the development of the game begin in 2014 and is still 2 years away.
The hacker also claims to be responsible for the recent Uber hack, and is now ready to negotiate a ransom deal with developer Rockstar for more sensitive material such as GTA 5 and 6 source codes, assets and the test build itself.
A message from Rockstar developers confirmed the breach:
