Cyberpunk 2077 seizes the top spot on Steam after the success of the Netflix anime show Edgerunners
According to Steam Charts, Cyberpunk is no longer a flop. The game had an estimated 85,555 concurrent players on Steam this past weekend. In comparison, less than a week ago, this game had around 22000 concurrent players. Kudos to the success of the powerful Netflix anime show Edgerunners. Cyberpunk saw a revival in popularity.
This 10-episode anime series is currently ranking in the second spot as a video game Tv show on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100 percent critical rating and 97 percent user rating. This show also has an IMDB rating of 8.7.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action role-playing video game developed and published by CD Projekt Red. Its adventurous story is set in a megalopolis, Night City, fascinated with power, glamour and heavy body modifications. You play as a mercenary gangster on a quest to find a key to eternity.
After years of preparation, the game was launched for PlayStation, Xbox One, Stadia and Windows on 10 December 2020, with approximately one million gamers joining straight away. However, it was a disastrous buggy launch with numerous glitches and other performance problems, especially for PlayStation and Xbox One. Sony took it down from the PlayStation store, and they were left with around 80,483 concurrent players on January 2021.
CD Projekt Red was widely criticized, investigated, and subjected to class-action lawsuits for their perceived efforts to underplay the severity of the technical glitches before the release; these were later cleared with a US$1.85 million settlement, and refunds were offered to any dissatisfied customers by the game developers.
According to Steam DB, Cyberpunk 2077 has outperformed GTA 5, Destiny 2 and Elden Ring by scoring the second highest number of players since its launch in 2020. Since this game is regaining its rhythm, Phantom Liberty, an expansion, is scheduled for release on PC and next-generation consoles in 2023.
Pawel Sasko, the director of the Cyberpunk 2077 quest, thanked fans online for giving the game a second chance.
