Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, shared some new details about what PlayStation’s future holds in his interviews with a few media outlets.
Sony PlayStation plans to expand the genres of games it creates, but it won’t ignore its primary strength of single-player narrative adventures such as “Spider-Man” or “God of War.” They have launched 12 projects in the live ops multiplayer arena. It has also expanded its gaming production across PC and mobile platforms. Along with that, he mentioned that they are still going to make games for PS4 users as well.
Hermen Hulst, the CEO of PlayStation Studios, said:
“More investments in areas that would reinforce the extension on to PC, on to mobile, and into live services, that’s definitely a possibility for us.”
Live ops, sometimes known as live service games, are generally multiplayer and designed for years of post-release content that can generate extra money. Sony has had little success in the live gaming space compared to popular titles like Epic‘s Fortnite and EA‘s Apex Legends.
Recent commercial transactions by Sony, such as the $3.6 billion purchase of Bungie, the company that produced the multiplayer “Destiny” game, highlight Sony’s major transformation in its projects and how it plans to change the future for its users.
In the end, Hulst also told about their investment in the Japanese Developer FromSoftware, which is well known for its action role-playing game “Elden Ring.”
