Microsoft usually does not provide specific revenue data for Xbox Game Pass but the most recent financial data for console gaming passes have been made public by a Brazilian agency.
We’ve been provided a bit of extra insight, report states that Microsoft generated $2.9 billion in revenue in 2021. The Brazilian Administrative Council for Economic Defense issued this report. The report included extensive information on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and other companies in a public report that CADE produced explaining its decision-making strategy.
According to the facts supplied, Microsoft has earned $2.9 billion from Xbox game pass, a game subscription service for consoles. These numbers demonstrate that Xbox Game Pass contributed 30% of its games and services income and 18% of its annual revenue. The revenue from PC game passes has not yet been included in this report. Microsoft’s publicly available data shows that Xbox gaming brought in $16.28 billion in 2021. Although the number is impressive on its own, it may even be more so in the overall scheme of things.
According to the report, EA Play made $356 million, compared to $932 million for Nintendo Switch Online. For Sony‘s game subscription services, it provided no numbers.
The details were provided as part of CADE’s report explaining why it had “no restrictions” to approve Microsoft’s intended acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Following Saudi Arabia’s approval of the merger between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard in August, Brazil became the second nation to do so this week. It’s far from finalized, though, as Microsoft is still awaiting approvals from the relevant market regulators in the UK, US, and EU.
