This is the ideal moment to purchase an Xbox Series X or S or to subscribe to Xbox Pass Because there has been an indication that the costs are set to increase.
Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, indicated a price increase for Xbox products while speaking at a Wall Street Journal event today. Spencer stated that we’ll have to increase the cost of some items at some point.
“We have maintained the prices for our console, the games, and our subscription. That won’t be possible constantly, in my opinion. I do believe that eventually we’ll need to increase some of the costs for some items.”
However, any such action from Microsoft wouldn’t occur until after the holidays. Although Spencer avoided revealing details, many take his comment to imply that the cost of Xbox consoles, games, and services like Xbox Game Pass may increase. Given the status of the world economy right now, none of this should come as a surprise.
In the case that Microsoft does raise prices, it will be the latest company to do so. Apple, Netflix, Spotify, Disney, and Google-owned YouTube are among the streaming services that have increased at least some of their subscription costs for their respective music and video streaming apps during a previous couple of years. And just this past summer, Sony increased the suggested retail price in several regions for its PlayStation 5 video gaming console.
