After cynically exploiting stolen video from Grand Theft Auto VI, the developers of Goat Simulator 3 are now in trouble.
Coffee Stain North, the creator of the Goat Simulator games, have found themselves in trouble with Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two after they published an ad for their upcoming open-world havoc simulator that featured footage stolen from the leak of Grand Theft Auto VI earlier this year.
This commercial features an extremely awkward yet well-known NPC being questioned by the press. He said that he would appear in future projects, including the one that recently leaked online. The Goat Simulator 3 NPC is then played against a B-roll of Grand Theft Auto 6 video showing a restaurant heist. Back in September, a leak of Grand Theft Auto VI gave fans a fascinating insight into one of the year’s most highly anticipated games.
Even though the situation is so ridiculous, Take-Two didn’t find the humor in it and had the video taken down for copyright infringement. Following a copyright claim, the video has been removed from online platforms.
The game has been available for almost a month, and it appears that creator and developer Coffee Stain Studios is hoping to boost Holiday sales through another round of viral marketing.
So before anyone says that Take-Two doesn’t have a sense of humor, we must point out that the GTA 6 footage was stolen and never meant to be shown to the public. That makes Coffee Stain Studios’ decision to release the film illegal and extremely cynical, given that they would have known this beforehand.
