Amazon Games Expands Its Lineup with the Long-Delayed Throne and Liberty and Plans to Publish Games in the West and Japan
A recent press release says that NCSoft’s highly anticipated fantasy MMORPG, Throne and Liberty, is going to be the company’s first major MMO to be released globally with a publisher outside the company. The game is expected to have an interesting story, a lot of ways to change your character, and a strong multiplayer system. Moonyoung Choi, NCSoft’s chief development management officer, said that one of the reasons Amazon Games was chosen as the publishing partner for Throne and Liberty was that Amazon has become one of the “most reliable partners for publishing massive live-service games globally.”
Amazon Games Vice President, Christoph Hartmann, stated that publishing games that “live and grow over time” is a critical part of the company’s strategy and that they are committed to delivering high-quality games from the world’s most talented developers.
Hartmann went on to say that Amazon Games has learned a lot in the last year about publishing and managing successful live-service games on a global level, and they are fully prepared to provide Throne and Liberty players with an incredible experience when they launch.
Amazon Games has found a way to make money by bringing Eastern MMOs to the West. Lost Ark, which came out in February 2022, is a good example of this.
When Throne and Liberty comes out, Amazon will be the publisher. This is a big step forward for the company, which at first had trouble making games and getting them published.
