Entertainment Software Association today informed its members that this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has been postponed, over a year after it had been stated that it would return.
E3 “remains a popular event and brand,” but the 2023 edition “just did not gather the continuous attention necessary to execute it in a way that would highlight the breadth, strength, and significance of our industry.”
The possibility of doing the show again in the future has not been mentioned currently.
After IGN’s story, Kyle Marsden-Kish, Global VP of Gaming at ReedPop, informed that the work we and our partners put into organising this event, this was a challenging decision, but we had to act in the best interests of the industry and E3.
We recognise and accept that interested companies wouldn’t have playable demonstrations prepared and that lack of resources prevented them from attending E3 this summer.
We apologise for not being able to provide the presentation that those who committed to attending E3 2023 deserve and have come to expect from ReedPop’s event experiences.
The Los Angeles Convention Center planned to host the event, which was to be the first E3 gathering in person since 2019, from June 13 through June 16. Although a digital version of the event was held in 2021, the event was again postponed in 2022 in order to concentrate on a “revitalised showcase” that would establish a new benchmark for hybrid industry events.
E3’s return for this year and the cancellation of E3 2022 were both announced in June. The statement coincided with other well-known brands in the industry, such as Microsoft, Nintendo, PlayStation, and most recently, Ubisoft, announcing that they will not beĀ attendingĀ E3.
