Sony is getting ready for the first-ever PlayStation Showcase in 2023. But so yet, all we’ve heard is little rumors and no real news. It is anticipated that the occasion will take place before Geoff Keighly’s Summer Game Fest 2023.
The journalist covering video game news tweeted today that the PlayStation Showcase for 2023 is anticipated to take place before June 8, 2023. This tweet was published after E3 2023 was postponed due to the withdrawal of numerous businesses, tech behemoths, and publishers who preferred to go it alone.
We haven’t heard anything from Sony in almost two years, except than a few State of Plays. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine are in the works, but other than cryptic remarks about the standalone multiplayer spin-off of The Last of Us, we don’t know what the company’s other first-party teams are working on. In actuality, aside from third-party content, the PS5 roadmap is essentially nonexistent.
The platform holder has yet to make a presentation, but it appears that it won’t be too long now. According to Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, who is renowned for providing generally accurate insider information, there will be a full PlayStation Showcase before Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which is presently scheduled for 8th June. It obviously leaves a wide range of potential dates for the event, but it’s still useful to have a ballpark estimate.
Expectations will be quite high because Grubb previously stated that the Japanese behemoth has been “saving the good stuff” for this presentation and because of how unusually quiet the corporation has been. This is expected to be significantly bigger than the typical State of Play because there is talk that it will set up “phase two” of the PS5’s release schedule. Naturally, Sony has not yet officially verified any of this, so hold off on having high hopes until they do.
Personally, we believe the company needs a sizable presentation; while it managed to avoid one in 2022, we do not believe it will be able to coast for another 12 months without any serious, significant improvements.
