With 23 million copies sold worldwide and top accolades at the annual Game Awards, “God of War” quickly rose to fame. Its parental themes were praised and held up as another illustration of how sophisticated and mature mainstream gaming has become.
Creator of the upcoming God of War reboot, Cory Barlog, recently told the LA Times that Sony is “stretched out on a bunch of varied projects,” but he declined to provide details.
The studio has produced a wide variety of independent titles, including the widely praised “Journey,” as well as “Eat Sleep Play,” “Giant Sparrow,” “The Unfinished Swan,” “Ready at Dawn,” and “The Order: 1886.” (PixelJunk).
Eric Williams, the director of Ragnarök, has declared to the LA Times that he would be pleased to devote himself to the series full-time, despite Santa Monica possibly working on non-God of War projects.
The main character, Kratos, transformed 2018’s “God of War,” a reboot of the venerable mythical action franchise for Sony’s PlayStation systems. Kratos has become one of the most well-known video gaming fathers because of God of War.
Games like “God of War” (2018) and “Ragnarök,” much more so, present a challenge to the player to never put the controller down. Even the expository parts of the plot, such as the ones that describe Kratos’ complicated connection with Freya, are handled with a forward pace.
According to Barlog, “We’ve progressed gradually over a decade or two to that position,” noting “The Last of Us” (2013) by Naughty Dog as evidence that high-budget video games can successfully mix violence and emotion. “However, I believe that 2018 was doable for me since there were so many other games.
