Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has hinted that the mobile versions of “Fortnite” may come back to iOS and iPadOS in 2023.
In a tweet on December 31, Sweeney wrote, “Next year on iOS!” Sweeney has continued to respond to the post by uploading a screenshot from Epic’s “Fortnite.”
Even though he never explained the tweet, it may be a significant step for the developer if it occurs.
In 2020, the App Store banned Fortnite because Epic Games allowed players to purchase V-Bucks (the game’s premium currency) straight from the developer. Because Apple takes a 30% share of all revenue earned in its stores, this activity is expressly prohibited.
After Epic broke the App Store’s rules regarding payment mechanisms and subsequent litigation ensued, the company decided to stay away from Apple and the App Store as of August 2020.
However, if Fortnite returns to the App Store in 2023, every legal dispute between the two firms has been sorted out.
