Electronic Arts Inc. has reportedly scrapped a game called “Titanfall Legends,” according to a report by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg. The game, which hasn’t been made public yet, was created by Respawn Entertainment for EA.
One of the biggest publishers of video games in the world, EA, released poor financial results for the most recent quarter on Tuesday. The business announced that it is closing Industrial Toys, the developer of the Apex Legends and Battlefield mobile games.
50 members of the unnamed game team were informed by management that EA would make an effort to place them in positions within the organization. According to the sources familiar with the situation who talked to reporters under the condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to do so, anyone who was unable to comply would be given severance packages and dismissed.
The story makes the assumption that Mohammad Alavi, the project’s director, departing the firm earlier in 2022 was the cause of the game’s cancellation; nevertheless, EA has recently disclosed a number of game delays and cancellations.
With the recent news that Respawn will shut down Apex Legends Mobile and EA will delay Star Wars: Jedi Survivor until April 28, 2023, the future of EA’s games for the next few years and the Titanfall and Apex Legends franchises in general are more uncertain than ever.
A new single player instalment of the critically successful Titanfall franchise has long been demanded by fans. Titanfall 2, the most recent instalment, was released in 2016 to positive reviews.
A third game is in the works, called Apex Legends, a multiplayer battle royale game set in the same world as one of Electronic Arts’ most lucrative titles, generating more than $2 billion. In addition to working on Jedi: Survivor, Respawn, one of EA’s most prolific game developers, also continues to update Apex Legends and other Star Wars titles.
A mech-based first-person shooter called Titanfall was introduced in 2014 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows platforms to favourable reviews and public interest.
While Titanfall 2 was released in 2016 and quickly followed, fans of the series have only been treated to mobile spin-off games that are quickly discontinued.
The player bases of these two games are very different, despite the fact that Apex Legends, which debuted in 2019, quickly rose to prominence as one of the most popular battle royale games accessible.
