There’s a lot of reviews about Google Pixelbook 12in, but we want to share something more encompassing because some of those reviews are misleading as they’re not looking at the bigger picture of what this product is and what it isn’t.
Build Quality
Talking about hardware of this device, it’s the best built Chromebook available on the market.
The keyboard is excellent, backlit and way better than most other Chromebooks and even better than a lot of other regular laptops. The trackpad is built really well with great material choices and a good button mechanic but there’s a little bit of a stutter in Chrome OS.
The white rubber pads are nice, they’re supposedly resistant to dirt or any kind of staining. They are positioned all over the device to protect it when you have it closed and to give it a little bit of grip so when you’re using it, you feel more confident in its ability to not get damaged.
The tablet mode is not as comfortable as we’d like a tablet to be. The keyboard is on the bottom so you may touch that every time you use it. It’s a little thicker and heavier than a dedicated tablet would be but any kind of two-in-one foldable device is going to feel like this and as a tablet, it’s not bad.
Performance
There’s an optional stylus called the Pixelbook Pen that basically works as intended. The lag is very minimal, as long as the apps have been recently updated. It’s a good stylus but there’s a feature where you can circle things in Chrome and Google will search for it, which feels really gimmicky. It pulls up the stuff that is somewhat related to the thing that you’ve circled but is never something you actually want to search for.
Performance of Google Pixelbook 12in Chromebook is good as its running 7th gen Intel processor. The battery life is good that gets you around 8 hours of battery life but it could be better considering this system is low power demanding.
Price
This Chromebook costs $1000 and when we look at the price of any competitor; a 12-inch MacBook, MacBook Air, XPS 13, Razor Blade Stealth, iPad Pro, all of these devices can do tasks what the Google Pixelbook 12in does but more.
Conclusion
We would have only recommended Google Pixelbook 12in if the price tag on this product was something between $700 to $800. If you’re going to spend $1000, you have to justify its purchase; to use this and prefer it over any of the other devices we have mentioned above.
There’s so much more versatility with the other choices over this. If you want better battery life or want to play games, or in terms of good hardware, there’s other options like Dell, HP and Razer that do much more and cost less but its all about preference.
